I am VERY excited for this color contest.  Mostly because it was my idea ;)   But also because, who doesn’ t like to color?!  It doesn’t matter what age you are.  Every once in a while it feels good to just….color!  Even though this contest is for kids, don’t be surprised if you see me at the table coloring too!

A few weeks ago, I gave an education tour to Brownie Troop #112.  They had such a great time they decided to go back to their school and raise funds for us by holding a jean day at their school!  This troop and St. Thomas School raised $486.00 for the Humane Society!  Not only did they donate money, they donated a large pile of items for us too!  We were very thankful to this dedicated troop!

In the huge manilla envelope that carried the cash and change, was a little box with a letter in it.  It reads:

Dear Humane Society

We earned $3.15 by selling crafts.  We decided to donate the money plus an extra 30 cents that Bailey donated.  We could have been playing together but decided to raise money instead.  We hope this could help.

Sincerely,  Bailey and Maggie

Although we see a lot of frowns in this type of business, this letter definitely put a smile on our faces and was a friendly reminder to ourselves why we are here.

Thank you very much to Brownie Troop 112 and St. Thomas School!

New Blinds Make All The Difference!

Garbers Decorating and Design recently came to our rescue and donated a brand new Blind shade for our front office.  In the morning the sun beats down on that window blinding our ladies up front.  Not to mention our curtains that we had before had seen better days.  Now we have this nice clean window treatment that really just made our day.  It’s the little things that excite us!

Our Office Manager, Nancy, made the valance at the top!  She did a really good job.  Now if we could get a fresh coat of paint on these gross green walls, it would really brighten it a lot in there!

Thanks Garbers for coming to the rescue!

Keep up the good work you guys and thanks for donating!

*Did you know that the HSEC survives on nothing but donations?  All of our food that we feed our animals are donated from the community!  Even our towels and blankets that are used to clean or keep an animal warm is donated.  We always strive the importance of donating and hope that the wonderful community keeps it coming because we will be here for a very long time!!*

Busy Weekend leads to big donations and lots of adoptions!

This weekend was a huge success for not only the Red Barn Resale but for the Humane Society too!

Friday started us off with the Red Barn Resale opening up for the first time in March.  The barn was loaded with everything imaginable from clothes to electronics to toys to even cabinets!  It was a site to see!  There were so many cars down there that we needed a parking lot to put them all.  It was wonderful to see the community come out to support such a great cause! Overall this weekend took in over $1800 from the Red Barn Resale!!!!!!!  That’s amazing!

The next Red Barn Resale shop will be at the end of this month.  March 27th & 28th.

Saturday was just as busy as the Guild put on the March Mutt Madness and Feline Frenzy adoption event at the HSEC.  This event allowed anyone who came into the shelter that filled out an adoption application to pick a paw off the wall that had a value of 10%-50% off their adoption fee.  This event was a success and we had over 25 applications to go through.  A lot of our animals received holds on them and hopefully all of them will go home!

The HSEC would like to thank all of our volunteers, guild members and staff that helped make these events this weekend possible!  Can’t wait for the next fun filled event!

Recently, we got a very generous donation from HomeCrest Cabinetry!  They donated a TON of cabinets and trim to the Red Barn Resale Shop!  It’s amazing at the response from the community to help other people who are in need.  These cabinets not only will help the shelter get more organized but it also helps the community.  It’s our way of “Giving Back”.

HomeCrest also gave us a very generous christmas gift!  They donated a portable Dog Grooming tub!  We’re really excited and we can’t wait till the warmer weather gets here so we can have a seperate area for volunteers to wash animals for us either inside or outside!  It’s somethign that our shelter will use over and over again!  Pictures of the bathtub will be comming soon!  We need to install it and we’re just waiting for warmer weather.

This is the 3rd month that we’ve been offering the Red Barn Resale Shop to the public!  A lot of people ask us, what is it!?  Well, it’s like a giant garage sale of stuff overflowing a large barn!  That’s the best way I can describe it.  I’m sure these pictures will do more justice!

The barn is actually located right next to the shelter by our cemetery.  They have a little bit of everything in this store.  From clothes to dishes to furniture and electronics.  You’ll find a little bit of everything in here!  AND we’re always accepting donations of your stuff for it!  So clean out those closets and give to a good cause!  All proceeds go to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.

Come check us out this Friday and Saturday from 10 to 4 for the Red Barn Resale Shop!
